Tiny Tots: Infant & Toddler Program (6–24 months)

Nurturing Curiosity, Independence, and Connection

Our Tiny Tots classroom is a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment designed specifically for infants and young toddlers ages 6 to 24 months. Rooted in our play-based philosophy and inspired by Montessori principles, the Tiny Tots program supports each child’s natural development at their own pace, with a focus on language, independence, self-awareness, and motor skills.

A Gentle Beginning to Lifelong Learning

In the earliest months and years, every moment is an opportunity for discovery. Our teachers provide responsive care and create rich sensory experiences that encourage exploration, comfort, and connection. Through soft conversation, music, movement, and story time, we begin laying the foundation for strong language development and secure emotional bonds.

Core Areas of Focus

Language Development

We surround children with meaningful language throughout the day—naming objects, narrating activities, reading stories, singing songs, and encouraging gestures and early words. Our goal is to help each child build communication skills and feel understood.

Cognitive Growth

Children are given open-ended materials and simple challenges that foster curiosity and problem-solving. Whether exploring how objects move, noticing patterns, or responding to cause and effect, we nurture each child's ability to think, reason, and make connections.

Independence & Self-Awareness

Even the youngest children are capable and eager to do things for themselves. We support early independence by encouraging simple choices, self-feeding, and participation in routines. Children begin to develop self-confidence and an emerging sense of identity.

Fine & Gross Motor Skills

Our classroom is designed to support safe movement and physical exploration. Infants are given the space and encouragement to roll, crawl, stand, and walk at their own pace. Toddlers engage in climbing, dancing, grasping, stacking, and other activities that refine both gross and fine motor coordination.

A Caring, Connected Environment

Each child in Tiny Tots is known, loved, and supported by consistent, attuned caregivers. We partner closely with families to honor routines from home, provide daily updates, and celebrate each milestone together.

At Woolly Mammoth, we believe that the first years of life are a sacred time of rapid growth and deep connection. The Tiny Tots classroom offers the gentle structure, enriching play, and loving attention young children need to thrive.

Welcome to the Busy Bees Classroom!

For Children Ages 24–40 Months

This is our dynamic and joyful class for young two’s who are full of energy, questions, and personality. While some may call this stage the “Terrible Twos,” we see it differently—twos are terrific. At Woolly Mammoth Preschool, we embrace this exciting developmental period with empathy, enthusiasm, and intention.

The Busy Bees classroom is designed to support your child’s growing independence, self-awareness, and need for connection. Our nurturing teachers create a safe, structured environment where your toddler can thrive through play, movement, and exploration.

Learning Through Relationships and Play

At this age, children are beginning to understand themselves as part of a larger community. Our approach focuses on scaffolding learning through collaborative play—helping children interact, share space, and build early friendships.

We guide them through the social learning process by modeling and practicing important life skills like:

  • Using words to solve problems
  • Asking for help when needed
  • Taking turns and working through big feelings
  • Recognizing others’ emotions and building empathy

Conflict is a natural part of development, and we view it as an opportunity to teach emotional regulation and peaceful problem-solving.

Supporting Big Milestones: Potty Training & Independence

A major developmental focus in the Busy Bees class is toileting and potty training. Each child’s readiness is respected, and we work in close partnership with families to ensure a consistent, encouraging experience.

Throughout the day, children are supported in doing things for themselves—whether it's washing hands, putting on their shoes, or helping clean up after snack. These moments build confidence and a sense of autonomy.

What Your Child Will Explore

  • Language-rich play and daily storytelling
  • Sensory activities, art, and music
  • Movement and gross motor fun (inside and outdoors)
  • Social play that encourages cooperation and turn-taking
  • Simple routines that support transitions and independence

In the Busy Bees classroom, your child is seen, celebrated, and guided with love. We help them grow from “me” to “we,” giving them the tools they need to feel confident, curious, and capable.

Welcome to the Explorers Classroom

For Preschoolers Preparing for Kindergarten and the World Beyond

The Explorers classroom is designed for our oldest preschoolers—curious, capable, and ready to take on more responsibility as they prepare for the transition to elementary school. Rooted in our play-based approach, the Explorers program nurtures the whole child, building academic readiness alongside social-emotional strength, creativity, and critical thinking.

Learning Through Play, Purpose, and Partnership

In this vibrant classroom, children are active participants in their own learning. Through collaborative play and hands-on projects, they begin to understand how to work as part of a group, express their ideas clearly, and navigate relationships with empathy and respect.

We place a strong emphasis on:

  • Social-emotional development and self-regulation
  • Conflict resolution and peer collaboration
  • Ownership of tasks and early time management skills

Teachers serve as guides and partners—modeling problem-solving, supporting big feelings, and helping children reflect on their actions and experiences.

Preparing for Kindergarten and Lifelong Learning

We introduce foundational academic concepts in meaningful, playful ways to ensure that children are confident and excited to continue their learning journey.
In the Explorers classroom, children engage in:

  • Letter and sound recognition through weekly phonics activities
  • Number sense and early math through games, manipulatives, and routines
  • STEM exploration, where we ask “how” and “why” and talk about cause and effect
  • Creative art experiences that foster self-expression and innovation

Global Citizens in the Making

As their awareness of the world expands, we guide children in exploring people, places, and cultures across the globe. Our study of the continents introduces geography, traditions, and ways of life in a way that feels exciting and accessible. We help children build empathy and a sense of responsibility as members of a diverse, interconnected community.

What Sets Explorers Apart

  • Emphasis on independence and responsibility
  • Structured routines that promote time awareness
  • Opportunities for leadership and classroom ownership
  • Deepened critical thinking through inquiry-based learning
  • Meaningful preparation for the transition to kindergarten

At Woolly Mammoth Preschool, the Explorers classroom is more than just the final step before elementary school—it’s where curiosity meets confidence, and children are empowered to think deeply, act kindly, and step into the world with a strong sense of self and community.
