About Woolly Mammoth Preschool
Rooted in Respect. Inspired by Curiosity. Guided by Kindness.
At Woolly Mammoth Preschool, our mission is to create a nurturing, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children feel empowered to explore, discover, and grow. Drawing inspiration from the Montessori philosophy and blending it with play-based learning, we support each child’s natural development—emotionally, socially, and academically.
Our thoughtfully designed classrooms offer children the freedom to move, make choices, and engage with materials that encourage independence, accountability, and creativity. We follow each child's pace and interests, ensuring they are both challenged and supported as they build confidence and a lifelong love for learning.
What Makes Woolly Mammoth Unique
Community
At the heart of our school is a strong, supportive community. Our children, teachers, and families share a bond rooted in respect, trust, and acceptance. Emotional well-being is at the core of everything we do. Children are encouraged to play and work together peacefully, learning kindness, empathy, and compassion as part of their daily routine. We welcome and celebrate families from diverse cultures and backgrounds, enriching our classrooms with global perspectives.
Creativity
Creativity flows through every aspect of our curriculum. Inspired by Dr. Montessori’s belief that education should evolve with the child, we combine classic Montessori principles with modern tools and ideas. Children are encouraged to explore materials in new ways, think critically, and express themselves freely through art, music, dramatic play, and hands-on STEM activities.
Social-Emotional Development
Social learning is foundational in our approach. Classrooms are vibrant and collaborative, with teachers acting as gentle guides to help children learn the language of emotions, friendship, and conflict resolution. We empower children to "use their words" to navigate challenges, fostering self-regulation, resilience, and confidence in relationships.
Positive Discipline
We believe discipline is about guidance, not punishment. Our approach includes prevention, redirection, and environmental design to help children succeed. Teachers support children in identifying their feelings and resolving conflicts peacefully, helping them develop empathy, responsibility, and problem-solving skills.
Learning & Growth
Each child progresses at their own pace, with lessons and experiences tailored to individual readiness—not just age. Teachers carefully track development and meet with families regularly to share observations and goals. We introduce phonics, early math, world geography, STEM, and practical life skills through hands-on, play-based activities that spark wonder and inquiry.
Supporting Independence
From early toileting to daily routines, we support children in doing things for themselves. This builds confidence, responsibility, and readiness for future transitions. Please see our Potty Training Policy to learn more about how we partner with families through this important milestone.
Safety & Environment
Our classrooms are designed with intention—bright, open spaces filled with natural light and purposefully chosen materials. Our facility is designed to meet the needs of young children, with high ceilings, colorful interiors, and a focus on safety and comfort. We meet and exceed all safety codes, including earthquake and fire regulations.
Integrity & Intentionality
Woolly Mammoth was built from the ground up with love, care, and intention—the kind of school we wanted for our own children. From the infant years through preschool graduation, we’re here to support your child’s growth every step of the way. Every family who joins our community becomes part of something truly special.
